You are essentially just melting chocolates and candy melts but I’ve broken the recipe down to very specific steps for you below.

6 ladybug cookies for kids

*This recipe makes approximately 12 ladybug cookies.

Ladybug Cookie Recipe Materials:

1 package of Nutter Butter Cookies
1 bag of red candy melts
1 bag of Ghirardelli dark chocolate melting wafers
2-4 TBSP of coconut oil
1 package of small edible eyes
1 disposable piping bag

Ladybug Cookie Recipe Directions:

  1. Line cookie sheet with parchment paper

2. Using a double boiler or microwave in 10 second increments, melt the red candy melts.

3. Add in 2 tbsp of coconut oil to thin out the candy melts.

4. Add another tbsp of coconut oil if needed to thin out the candy melt.

5. Once melted, place the nutter butter into the red candy melt.

6. Using a fork, dip the nutter butter cookie into the candy melt and flip the cookie so that the whole cookie is coated.

7. Carefully pick up the nutter butter with the fork and lightly tap the edge of the pot to get rid of the excess candy melt.

8. Place nutter butter onto the cookie sheet

9. Repeat steps with remaining nutter butter cookies.

10. Once all have been dipped red, discard the red candy melt and clean your bowl.

11. Let nutter butters cool and dry completely before moving on to the next step.

12. Use another dish to melt the dark chocolate melting wafers.

13. Once melted and smooth, dip the tip of of the nutter butter into the chocolate to make the head of the ladybug.

14. Place two eyes into the center of the head.

15. Scoop a little bit of the chocolate into the piping bag.

16. Cut a small tip off the piping bag.

17. Pipe a line down the center of the ladybug.

18. Using the piping bag, pipe big to small dots scattered on the ladybugs.

19. Once done, repeat steps with remaining nutter butters.

20. Once all have been decorated, set aside to cool and harden for about 1 hour.

It seems like a lot of steps but it’s only because I have broken it down so meticulously! Essentially you just melt candy melt for each layer then let cool! That’s it! It’s easy to do and has a stunning effect for bug birthday parties and spring celebrations! You can even alter this to use Oreo cookies instead if you want a round ladybug cookie!
