Spell Quizzer Review

I was recently contact by Dan who requested that I review his spelling software called SpellQuizzer. Understanding that most children need all of the help that they can get in spelling, I readily agreed!
SpellQuizzer is a spelling program (for Windows) which helps kids learn their spelling words- in an easy and fun way. Instead of parents having to sit down and drill their kids on spelling words every night, you can pre-set up your child’s spelling list in SpellQuizzer and let them work on their words alone. There are several different ways which you can use SpellQuizzer.
One is by actually pre-recording yourself speaking the spelling words so that your child can replay the word just as if a teacher was dictating it. The other way you can use SpellQuizzer if you do not have a microphone (which run about $10 at Walmart!) is that you can type in a descriptive sentence for your child to read. For example, if the word was “school”, you could either record yourself speaking the word “school”, or you can type in “A place where children go to study in a classroom.” The child will then need to type in the word “school”.
If the child does not spell the word correctly, the program will let the child know it was incorrect, and then they will have the chance to spell it correctly. This is a great way to not only increase your child’s keyboarding skills, but also to be able to practice their spelling words on a daily basis without a parent sitting down drilling them.
The program does cost $29.95, but there is a Money Back Guarantee, as well as a 30 day free trial offer too so you can see how you feel about the program. My favorite part is that you can actually record the word being said- which is more accurate to how a child will be tested in a classroom setting. This is ideal for homeschooler’s as well, and SpellQuizzer actually has a special homeschooling section!
Not only can you create your child’s spelling list, but you can use pre-made spelling lists AND even import spelling lists! This is great for homeschool groups so that each family can just simply import their list for the week. In addition to these options you can check out their community section where SpellQuizzer users can share their spelling lists with one another.
And FREE for everyone is SpellQuizzer’s FREE Spelling Lists! Choose pre-fab spelling lists in categories such as Spelling Bee, grade level spelling words, holiday words, sight words, misspelled words, months/days, religious, subject categories, and US states too!
SpellQuizzer’s built-in spellchecker recognizes both US and UK English spellings which I thought was a pretty cool bonus! It compliments ANY spelling curriculum because you can create your own custom lists.
I did like SpellQuizzer, it was extremely simple to install and begin using. My 3 year old can read & spell, and he was even able to use this program for simple words like “bed, dig, cat”, etc. I loved that you can record the spelling words so that the child can hear it verbally. I also liked that if a parent does not have time to sit down and drill their children on their spelling words, they could spend 5 minutes setting up their child’s spelling list and that student could practice an unlimited amount of times before their test. This would be particularly useful if a teacher wanted one of their students to practice their spelling words in the back of the classroom with headphones on!
