I’m in LOVE with our Halloween Nesting Dolls!! When I saw these blank unpainted wood nesting dolls on Amazon for about $6 I immediately bought a couple of them. They take 1-2 months to ship though unless you order these more expensive ones ($9-12ish) so make sure you plan ahead if you want the cheap ones!
When they arrived I immediately wished I’d ordered 4 more sets – I have so many fabulous ideas for them!
I only needed one coat of paint for each nesting doll. One arrived slightly stuck so I just used the smooth end of a butter knife to pry it open – easy peasy. Before I got started painting I planned out what type of Halloween decor I wanted to do and for which nesting doll size.
I chose a ghost, Frankenstein, pumpkin, black cat, and then just a royal purple color to go with the Halloween theme. I want to order another set though and create an entire Day of the Dead nesting doll line.
I painted the characters on the top half of the nesting dolls. For the cat I just went with a pair of yellow eyes so it could be a cat or bat I suppose! I didn’t want ears (or wings) getting stuck inside the nesting doll.
I did NOT paint the inside of the dolls, which aren’t usually painted anyway. I also painted the dolls while they were separated in half so that I didn’t exactly paint them so they go stuck together. I’m so happy with how they turned out!
There are just SO many themes I want to paint nesting dolls in now! These of course make an awesome kid’s craft too! If you’re buying the cheap nesting dolls though just double check the ship date! If you need it sooner go with the slightly more expensive nesting dolls to ensure quicker shipping.
