Layers of the Earth Pudding Recipe

One of my favorite projects that I remember doing in middle school was making (in class!!) a delicious pudding recipe to learn the different layers of the earth (crust, mantle, outer core, inner core). You can also consider revamping this idea for the different types of rocks as well (igneous, sedimentary, metamorphic).

I have seen a lot of different recipes for this experiment- so you can use whatever you have available. In middle school we simply made our ‘layers of the earth’ with different colored pudding and layers of graham crackers!

Here’s a more in depth recipe I found online:

1 lb. Oreo cookies, crumbled fine
2 bananas
1 sm. pkg. Cool Whip
1 can cherry pie filling
1 box Jello instant vanilla pudding
5 gummy worms

1. Mix up pudding according to directions on box.
2. Chill and let it get firm.
3. In a deep pan or bucket (clean sand bucket, flower pot, etc.), layer the crumbled Oreo cookies, then pudding, then Cool Whip, then slice bananas, then cherries, then repeat process until ingredients are gone but top it off with Oreos so save some before you start.
4. Place gummy worms on top with some semi-buried in Oreos. Keep chilled.
Can serve with a sand shovel or garden shovel.
(Picture shown is a more simple recipe w/out cherries, bananas, & cool whip. It’s just shown to give you an idea!)
