It’s a new year and that means Educational Insights has got some great new products! During the month of February it is their “Games We Love” month so every week I will be featuring one of their new games along with a giveaway!
This week we played Grandma’s Trunk Alphabet Game geared for children ages 5+.

As you can see the design is really very cute! The game “container” is a decorated trunk which holds the cards and game instructions as well as being a centerpiece to use during the actual game. I didn’t even tell my children when we got this game in the mail and they spotted in on my shelf begging to play it!

Along with Grandma’s trunk there are two stacks of cards – one which has the letters of the alphabet with a corresponding picture which starts with each letter, and one stack is Grandma’s riddles which can be used to play a more advanced version of the game. In fact there are five different game suggestions included with the game so you can really cater it to the specific needs of the child playing.

“What Comes Next?” is the simplest game you can play by simply having the children place the alphabet letters in order inside of Grandma’s trunk. “Letter Sequence Memory” is a bit harder and requires the children to remember their letter, and all the previous letters which were placed into the trunk in order. Similarly there is “Memory Time” in which the children have to remember the order placed in the trunk and add their own. Using Grandma’s riddles cards the children can read the riddle on the card and race to see who has the corresponding answer. Lastly you can play “Grandma’s Adventures” where each child has the opportunity to pull a card out of the trunk and tell a story along with it.

I LOVE that there are games like this which allow many different versions of the game to be played. Not only can you tailor the game to meet a child’s specific needs but it also gives the children more variety so that they do not tire of the game as quickly

The cards and trunk are very durable. This is the cutest little game! This is a great game for developing early reading skills, letter recognition, and enhancing a child’s imaginative thinking. Our family loved it! In fact my husband will be using it in his 2nd grade classroom as well for his low level readers.
