Glow Crazy Distance Doodler is an amazingly awesome fun ‘glow in the dark’ doodler by BIGiggle! This has definitely got to be one of my favorite products that I have reviewed. When I was offered the chance to review this, I thought it sounded really neat, but was a little skeptical as to how well it would really work.
The fun Glow Crazy box you see above contains 1 light wand, 2 very large wall clings (12″x30″ each!), 4 stencil sheets, and a fun tips booklet. The light wand does not come with the 4 ‘AAA’ batteries that it needs to work-so make sure you have some on hand when you get yours! The stencils you see below contained a transportation theme (truck & 2 cars), a space theme (rocket ship, alien ship, and fire bolt), a celestial theme (moon & stars), and an underwater theme (fish, seahorse, & turtle).
The light wand has 2 different settings- a sharp pen point setting for writing, and a large flashlight-type setting for shadowing. The setup is very simple. Put batteries in the light wand, and then attach one of the jumbo wall clings onto a smooth surface somewhere. We put ours up in our kitchen. It is a very large cling on (30 inches long!) and to be honest, against my white wall you can barely notice that it is there. It does not stick out in color difference. It is a reusable decal so it will not ruin your walls.
It actually comes with TWO jumbo wall clings. You can put one large one on the wall, and cut the other one up and make anything from stars, tic tac toe games, decor on toys, or place it on your ceiling! The options are really endless! Your kids can write on the wall or on the ceiling- no mess involved! (although I know this could backfire with little kids- but mine were OK!) The picture shown above where the boy has made the shadow of the girl’s outline- you can really do that!!
I’ve even had several teachers write and say that they have this in their classroom- which would just about make you the coolest teacher ever! This product actually works pretty well in a semi-dim room. If you turn the lights off on a cloudy day, or shut the blinds in your classroom- it will still show on the decal! Of course the most optimal results will be in complete darkness, but I had no problems using this product in a dim room.
I tried taking some videos so you could actually see it in action, and of course the night that I actually was able to get the glowing on my video camera- my son had set it to take a picture and I didn’t realize it! My video camera is not the best but you’ll get an idea of how it works with this video. For a MUCH better video you can also visit Glow Crazy’s website and see their promo video– I promise you that it really does work as well as their video shows! It’s definitely not enhanced.
I highly recommend this for hours of fun! It has definitely exceeded my expectations. This would be a lot of fun in a classroom, at home, a dorm room (I would have LOVED to have this in college!) and anywhere else you can possibly think of. It would even be cool for the kids to use in the car on a road trip! There are countless ways you can use this product to have fun. It is definitely worth the price. I am a very frugal person, and after using this product, I am actually looking for other products in this line. They also have a really awesome (although more expensive!) “Glow Dome” where it is a small tent the kids can actually crawl into and “draw” on the walls!!
You can buy Glow Crazy in stores at Walmart or online at the Glow Crazy website.
I would use this product in my Pre-K / PPCD Inclusion class! Our school was destroyed in Hurricane Ike, and we're still in temporary trailers for the remainder of this school year. Next year our brand new school will be ready, complete with brand new furniture, lots of really cool high-tech gadgets, and so much more. This would be a great addition to my temporary classroom for now and so much fun to have in the new school next year!

I teach kindergarten through 4th grade special needs students, so I am having trouble deciding which grade level would be best suited for this activity. Most likely, my two elementary aged childred of my own would want to try it out first anyway, so if I am lucky enough to win…after my own children try it out I will have a better idea of which grade level to use it for school. jennifergrieco(at)verizon(dot)net
I'd give this to my niece. It looks fun!
