Homemade Hydroponic Containers for Kids & the Classroom

Have you ever gardened using hydroponics? If so I’d LOVE to know what plants you grew! Growing our Venus Fly Traps hydroponically is my first attempt (unless you consider bamboo in water hydroponics!) but I am very interested in learning more about it. We purchased this Educational Insight’s Hydroponics set and are planning on using it in a few weeks but I’m curious if any of you grow things using hydroponics? I found a great classroom resource (which can easily be used at home!) to make your own hydroponic containers by using recycled products such as milk cartons and soda bottles!

If you have any pictures please send them to me or post them on my Facebook page as I’d love to see them!! The school my husband has been interviewing at is also interested in hydroponics so this has driven me further to look into it! I’m curious as to what the costs are compared to growing a “soil” based garden. Our soil is SO sandy and barely grows anything let alone veggies. I just don’t even know where to get started other than researching online so I’d love any input you might have!

I actually grew a hydroponic tomato plant last year :O) I don’t eat tomatoes but I hear they were the best!

  2. Our children would love this kit, I buy the hydroponic butter lettuce at Costco, it tastes so fresh and yummy.
