Meet PlaSmart’s PlasmaCar.
Your kids will love you for it!
This little thing requires NO batteries and NO pedals. There is nothing electronic to it and no small parts to break. Essentially it’s like a bike or car with no pedals. It’s ergonomically designed so that as you turn the handles back and forth it propels the PlasmaCar forwards and backwards. The amazing thing is that the PlasmaCar can hold up to 220 pounds AND reach up to 6 mph!
That is some serious speed for something that has no pedals or electronic gears! It works best of course on a smooth flat surface. Not only did I have a blast using it but my 2 year old can use it – and VERY well! Check it out!
Pretty cool huh? Now remember he is only 2 years old so you can get a LOT more speed on it with older kids and adults. My driveway has a slight slant downhill so the kids had a little bit of a difficult time coming uphill and going over sticks so I suggest clearing your “driving” area so it’s as flat as possible. But it sure hasn’t deterred my kids from using it!
It has little pads with feet designed on them to show the kids where to put their feet. My husband was able to put the PlasmaCar together in just a few minutes and it was very simple. When I first heard of the PlasmaCar I thought of my oldest son who was in occupational therapy at the time. A lot of the kids there used similar type vehicles that you propelled by using your hands but I knew the PlasmaCar was MUCH cheaper. It was a fantastic way to bring their work home.
Then I thought of my 2 year old who couldn’t peddle a bike, but I knew he could do this! It’s a great way to get the younger kids involved, meet the “need for speed” for older kids, help kids with lower muscle tone or coordination, and help kids and adults just plain have FUN!
As you can tell we absolutely LOVE the PlasmaCar and still use it all the time! In fact we are planning on buying another one so our kids can each have one. Once we got this the kids didn’t even look twice at their bikes – they both fought over this nonstop for weeks! It’s extremely durable although PlaSmart does sell replacement pieces. I love the stylish design, the bright colors and the whole concept behind it. It has received numerous awards including in 2009 being voted #1 Top Spring and Summer Kids Essentials by disneyfamily.com! The PlasmaCar will outlast your kid’s energy – and I even have a hard time doing that! 🙂

I saw this at a friends a few years ago. Her kids loved it and I even tried it to see how it worked and it was fun to use! I had forgotten about it until seeing this post. I would love one of these. It would be great for my students who are unable to pedal bikes due to gross motor difficulties and would be good for trunk strengthening.
