Jumpstart Pet Rescue Wii Game Review

This post may contain affiliate links, view our disclosure policy for details.

In the hunt for educational video games I came across Jumpstart’s Wii Game- Pet Rescue. This was actually the first preschool game ever offered on the Wii, and comes with over 80 fun activities! It is geared for children ages 3-6. Kids can explore a town, neighborhood,  jungle, beach, and pet land as they are on an important mission to rescue the lost pets! My son’s favorite is of course, pet land! (He loves animals!)

My son is 3 and he did not have any problems playing this game by himself. He has played Jumpstart online before though so I think that may have helped him understand how to move around in the Jumpstart world. When you first start the game you can pick your character and change the avatar with new hats, hair, skin colors, facial features, etc. As you can see below my son’s character ended up being a bit scary looking I thought! A white face with huge teeth, neon green hair and a firefighter hat! He didn’t seem to notice though!
Even my youngest really enjoyed watching big brother play!
I love that this game has an imaginative 3D learning environment. Each character has a name and my son has learned them all! There are so many places in this game for the children to explore- and there’s even a fun slide with silly music to it that they can slide down! Some of this game is just plain fun, and some of it is very educational. The children work on skills such as pre-reading, memory, listening, following directions, coordination, and much more in order to earn special rewards and adopt new pets.
My son really enjoyed reading the books on Pet Rescue in order to earn ‘gold cards’ and earn new presents for his house in the virtual world. The more educational activities the child accomplishes the more virtual rewards he/she will earn. This really encouraged him to choose activities that were more rewarding for him.

I also like that you can feed, groom, and play with your pets. It helps the child learn the responsibility of caring for something else. You can even teach your pet to do tricks and dance! My son thought it was so funny to wave the Wii remote around and make his pet spin and wag its tail! You can see him below picking a new fence for his house.
Overall we really enjoyed this game. I had heard a lot of mixed reviews so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it really is a fun preschool game. It is a really good mix of educational and fun. It has definetely entertained my family and I would recommend this for a preschool child. There is so much for them to explore you can really just let them go at it and browse around to learn on their own.
Interested in buying Jumpstart Wii Pet Rescue? You can buy it on Amazon, Best Buy, Toys R Us, Walmart, GameStop, Fry’s, BJ’s, and Sam’s Club!
