Batter Up! Whole-Class Game is my husband’s new favorite product from Educational Insights. Seriously- he is totally giddy over this baseball banner! This reusable banner provides a simple and quick alternative to using the whiteboard or chalkboard (AKA- blackboard) It can be used with any subject game the teacher or parent decides. (spelling, math, science, vocabulary, and more!)
There are 34 wipe-on/wipe-off player pieces (enough for 2 teams) and two pitcher pieces. That’s enough pieces for everyone in the class. Simply hang the banner up, write everyone’s names on the pieces with a dry erase marker, and you’re ready to begin!
The person asking the questions is the pitcher. If a student gets the answer correct, they have the opportunity to spin the baseball on the front of the banner which will determine how many bases the player will make it to! Each respective “base” on the banner has a clear pocket for the runner to slide his/her piece into. Then the basic rules of baseball follow to keep the players moving around the bases.
This is a very handy and helpful tool for a teacher to have in his/her classroom! It folds up into a nice flat banner which has a pocket in the back to store all of the runner/pitcher cards in. You can see below where the teacher or child keeps track of the teams scores. Although geared towards the classroom this is a fun idea to use at home when helping your children study for upcoming tests and quizzes.
I love that it is reusable- you can stretch your budget a long way if you take care of this nice banner. I also how it is so versatile. It’s a tool that can accompany any age classroom and any subject. It’s a neat way to get the students out of their seat and participating, and how well you do in the game is not necessarily dependant on how much you know which equalizes the playing field a bit. It stores nice and flat as to not take up extra space in a probably already over-crowded classroom.
We really loved this product and find it completely useful and practical for teachers! It is most certainly a nice product to invest in. The only small downfalls were that it does not come with a wet erase marker, and that the players can fall out of the back pocket if you’re not careful. None of that of course affects the quality or usefulness of the product. Overall definitely worth purchasing. This will last for years in my husband’s classroom and he is so eager to try it out with his new class this year!
