WHOO! It’s that’s time of year again! The U.S. Cellular’s Calling All Communities campaign is one that our school competes in every year! It’s a HUGE deal in our community! It is running from November 4-25, 2013 this year and donates up to a total of $500,000 to schools!! (the top 25 schools EACH win $25,000!) Schools can enter by rallying up their communities and asking them to vote during the designated time period! Only one vote per person is allowed so get together now and plan how you will spread the word for the votes you need for your school! Several of our local schools have won and we are hoping to win this year at our school! You can do a LOT for $25,000 for your school! This is open to ALL Public or Private Schools – no matter what size they are and cover any grades from K-12. You can check the website or visit your local U.S. Cellular store for more info.
On the U.S. Cellular Calling All Communities webpage you can find resources such as a printable flyer, outreach presentation tips, past winners, FAQ & more! Here are a few tips to help get your school involved:
- Print the flyer and send it home with all of your students.
- Take your flyer to local businesses and post it for others to find!
- Take advantage of spreading the contest on your school’s social media pages and e-mails!
- Get your after school groups, sports team, band and other school programs involved!
- Have a “voting” station set up at your school for parents and visitors to vote!
Since this campaign started in 2008 U.S. Cellular has awarded $4 million to 56 schools! There are SO many things our school could use with this money! I’m not sure what they would settle on but I know that technology is always needed – more iPads and eReaders. Our kitchen is SO outdated that we can’t apply for any lunch grants so I would love to see that updated. And we are in need of more playground equipment too so that would be another great option!
Make sure to check the Calling All Communities page on November 4-25th! How would your school use $25,000 if they won?
