Based on the 1938 book “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” by Richard and Florence Atwater this movie is a fantastic family movie! I had personally never read the book but for the past 10 years my husband has raved about how this was his favorite book. So when Mr. Popper’s Penguins produced by 20th Century Fox came to the theatres, and is now available on Blu-Ray/DVD he was like a kid! A VERY VERY excited kid! If you haven’t seen this yet it would make a great family gift! Kids of all ages will enjoy it.

Mr. Popper’s Penguins (the movie) is the story of how a box of penguins showed up at a well-to-do New York business man’s front door one day- which just so happened to be Mr. Popper. During Mr. Popper’s attempt to rid himself of the penguins his children come into the scene and he quickly tries to win their affection with the craziness of keeping these penguins in his New York apartment. It was hilarious watching the penguins nest in his icebox and watching Mr. Popper in a bit of a craze  begin shoveling snow into his posh city apartment! Not only is this a hilarious movie and enjoyable for the whole family but you can join the journey of morals as through this penguin misfit story Mr. Popper learns what really matters in life – his family.
I personally LOVED the story. And even though there were differences from the book my husband equally loved the movie. It was heart-warming, hilarious and surprisingly completely clean for a Jim Carrey movie. I had no problems letting my little guys watch this movie. However be forewarned,  your children may ask for you a pet penguin!! Seriously though – fantastic family movie. I highly recommend!
