I was offered the opportunity to work with ImagineToys.com and they sent me this set of Magna-Tiles. I had never heard of Magna-Tiles, have you? If you haven’t keep reading as this is a fantastic product for children (and special needs children too!). Magna-Tiles are magnetic translucent tiles that can be used to build objects in 2D or 3D! The magnetic tiles connect easily as they can be attached on all sides. Below you see that it comes with 4 right triangles, 4 isosceles triangles, 8 equilateral triangles, 2 large squares, and 14 small squares in a nicely laid out box.

It also includes a 3-D ideas chart to help spur and challenge your child’s creativity. I had never heard of Magna-Tiles but am so glad that I have had the opportunity to use them! My children love them! These translucent tiles are surprisingly thick and durable which is especially good for small hands or fairly destructive boys!!

These tiles help introduce or reinforce your child’s geometric knowledge, as well as developing spacial, tactile, and patterning skills. To my four year old, it was like a puzzle that challenged him. He knew what he wanted to create- but he had to figure out what pieces he needed to create it. It also added the extra option of a third dimension which really threw things up in the air a bit!

This was a very good coordination skills exercise for my son as well, who is delayed in his fine motor skills. It was fairly simple to keep the tiles standing up on another tile, but he had to be careful not to knock it over as he was building around it. That really helped him slow down just a bit and be more careful about what he was creating.

The Magna-Tiles are a bit pricey ($51.95) but worth the investment, especially if you have a special needs child. This is not a set that will break easily and I love that the pieces have a specific place to be in the box. They are not just thrown in there. It also helps the child to match the pieces and put them in the proper location. The possibility of what you can build with these Magna-Tiles are really endless. You can make a snake, a cube, a house, flower, road, pyramid, and all sorts of different objects.

I took a video so you could see these tiles in action and not only watch my 2 and 4 year old manipulating them, but so that you could also see how easy they are to use.

Disclosure: I was not compensated for this review. I did receive a Magna-Tiles set in order to form my own opinions. All opinions are 100% mine.
