Giant Microbes Review

Why Hello Little Flea!

Parasites are something that we don’t always think to teach our children about as they grow up. They’re gross, weird, unknown, or just plain forgotten about. But still a very important part of life. Giant Microbes helps to spread (no pun intended!) parasites, microorganisms, and other bugs and critters through these fun little plush animals!

They have agreed to participate in our BUG month! I had seen Giant Microbes products floating around online, and they always seemed so cool. Me, being the science geek, fell in love with their website! Maybe because Microbiology was my favorite subject in college? You can search their list of microbes under their common name (such as flea or bed bug) and their scientific name (such as Ctenocephalides felis or Cimex lectularis)! AND you can search under the type of disease it is such as Infirmities, Maladies, Critters, Aquatics, Exotics, etc.) I thought that was very very cool! (ok- so maybe I’m a bit of a science nerd!)
Even my kitty didn’t seem to mind this flea! They have a great selection of “BUGS” as you can see below!

But they are more commonly known for their viruses and bacterias! You can find “flu”, “gangrene”, “hepatitis”, “giardia”, “ebola”, “polio”, and a HUGE amount of other infectious diseases! The really awesome thing is that these diseased plushies actually look like the real microorganisms! The varicella-zoster virus (chickenpox) ACTUALLY is mirrored in the chickenpox plush! They’ve even come out now with a few vinyl diseases too!

Check out this salmonella below:
or how about a good old fashioned Streptococcus mutans (cavity?):
I love Giant Microbes! I think these would be perfect for so many different situations! You can buy your kids a cavity when they go to the dentist to get a filling. These are great gifts for a science teacher or science nerd! The bugs are just plain good for any kiddo. Pass a few diseases out to your co-workers, send them as a joke- the possibilities are endless! And you can’t beat the price! The regular size like I received is only $8.95 which I thought was very reasonable. Some of the diseases come in a petri dish size (3 plushes in a petri dish) and those are only $14.95!
