GeoSafari Talking Electron Microscope Review

I had the opportunity to try out Educational Insights GeoSafari Talking Electron Microscope. It’s geared for ages 8+ (grades 3rd+). You can view more than 180 up-close images on this talking microscope so there is definitely a great variety to choose from!

The great thing about this microscope is that there are no slides to break or damage. Everything is store digitally and can be found using the buttons on the microscope. You can’t lose anything because it’s all included!

With each image you can hear five different fun facts about the image in the Learning Mode. You can then switch to Quiz Mode to see if you remember what you’ve learned!

I loved the variety of images that can be viewed and learned about with GeoSafari’s Electron Microscope. You can see things from the human body (skin, bone, cell, etc), bacteria (strep, salmonella, e. coli), animals (mite, mosquito, butterfly, weevil, even a cat tongue!), nature (grass, petal….) and so much more!

So you can use these different images for a wide variety of subjects. They are all portrayed on a crystal clear high resolution LCD screen.

There is also a volume control which is nice, but there is no where to insert headphones. An electronic device such as this in a classroom setting might distract other children close by-just a heads up! 

There is also a “home” button, which is a nice feature to get back to the main menu!

I also liked the large buttons on the microscope. It is great for little fingers, as well as disabled children who may have a harder time controlling their movements. You can easily switch modes and images with the simple buttons on the base of the microscope.

Being a science geek I was eagerly anticipating receiving this Talking Electron Microscope. It is extremely educational and a great idea. I especially loved that it’s an “all in one” product. No slides or random little pieces to keep track of. 

I would personally love to see a spot for headphones so classrooms (especially younger ones) can have the experience of looking into a microscope, without worrying about glass slides or damaging pieces.

Unless a kid throws this across the room there is not a lot of damage that they can do with this.

I like that it’s easy for the kids to carry around and it’s very simple to use. The downside is that it is a little pricey, but considering what you get (a microscope with 180 images) it’s really not that bad. It runs about $65.

I personally love the hands-on experience of a real microscope, but this is a good alternative and certainly more kid-friendly.

My kids loved it when we opened it up! Granted they are quite a bit younger than the appropriate age for this, but I loved seeing my son and his friend sit down and scroll through the different images.

He kept telling me what each one was and listened to the facts. He’ll occasionally pull it out to view again, but I’m really holding on to it for when he gets a few years older.

Overall this is a really nice product. Highly educational and fun too!

    We have Hot Dots Jr.
    "Ace" and the beginning phonics card set. We only let out little guy play with it while he's sitting on the potty – it's the best incentive EVER! I don't direct him unless he asks for help, which he did in the beginning – now he's figuring out the sounds of the letters himself! I'd love to add to his cards by getting him the Numbers & Counting and Patterns & Sequencing sets.
