The Butterfly Project

The Holocaust Museum in Houston is working on an amazing exhibit to remember the 1,500,000 children who perished in the Holocaust. They are looking for anyone in the world to create their own butterflies to be showcased at their musem! On their website they also have a section for teachers to help share this with their classrooms in the way of lesson activities. This would be a really neat project to do as a class and send all of your butterflies there! It is scheduled to launch in 2013. If you or your classroom decides to do this project send me some pictures and I will post them here!! ([email protected])

Helen at A Crafty Kind of Truffle will also post your pictures too! (if you send them to me I will also forward them to her) She designs for a craft shop in England which will also be promoting this really great project! They are actually designing a special stamp from their best butterfly entry contestant! How neat!

The Butterfly Project

1.500,000 innocent children perished in the Holocaust.

In an effort to remember them, Holocaust Museum Houston is collecting 1.5 million handmade butterflies.
The butterflies will eventually comprise a breath-taking exhibition, currently scheduled for Spring 2013, for all to remember.
The Museum has already collected an estimated 600,000 butterflies.

Please facilitate the “I Never Saw Another Butterfly” activity and create as many handmade arts-and-crafts butterflies as possible. This project may be completed by all ages as individuals or groups.

•Butterflies should be no larger than 8 inches by 10 inches.
•Butterflies may be of any medium the artist chooses, but two-dimensional submissions are preferred.
•Glitter and all glitter-related products should not be used.
•Food products (cereal, macaroni, candy, marshmallows or other perishables) also should not be used.
•If possible, e-mail a photograph of your butterflies, to [email protected].

Please send or bring your butterflies to the Museum
by June 30, 2012, with the following information included:
•Your name,
•Your organization or school,
•Your address,
•Your e-mail address, and
•The total number of butterflies sent.
