ZOOMA Splat X Smack Shot Review

If you have boys you HAVE to check out these Zooma Splat X Smack Shot and Sly Shot slingshots – they are SOOOO cool! The more we played with them the more addicted we became! What are they? Essentially they are very heavy duty slingshots. The ammo is the orange and green balls that you see which are actually a little sticky (but not gooey) so that when they smack on something they are supposed to stick and flip down the wall. The ammo “ball” has the wings on the sides that you attach to the slingshots, pull back, then release! ZOOOMA! It says for ages 8+ and I wasn’t sure I wanted my younger boys aiming for each other so my husband and I were going to use them….but then of course the boys came around!
My 3 year old had no clue what to do but he loved holding onto the Splat-X Smack Shot which was the larger one because it had a red “laser” spotlight on the top so that when you pull your ammo back the red light flashed onto your target. It was really cool but seemed to us that it was the more difficult of the 2 to use. You really have to get the feel of using these and pull the ammo back the right way but it only takes a few minutes to get the hang of it, and when you do figure it out it’s a TON of fun! It took my 5 year old a little while to figure it out but when he finally did – OH BOY! Nothing in my house was safe! 🙂 Actually I was shocked that he was so good at it! That thing goes FAR! He would aim for the wall in front of him and it would bounce off and go clear across the room! Once in a while he would shoot it just right and it would stick to the surface he was aiming at and run down the wall a bit. This is SO cool! I am gifting our bigger slingshot to a teen cousin who I know will just LOVE it and I’ve actually got the Sly Shot on my list to buy for another cousin. After seeing how good my son did and how much fun he had we decided to turn it into a coordination practice for him! Besides – what boy doesn’t love flinging things across the room at top speed?

Hehe! GAME FACE! Seriously though, not to stereotype but this has got to be one of the coolest “guy” toys I’ve found that is just plain awesome. Plus they aren’t that expensive either! You can find the Zooma Splat-X Smack Shot (the larger one) for about $15 on Amazon and about $10 at Sears and Kmart. It’s also sold in stores at Walmart. Ammo sold separately. Since my son is younger and has the tendency to aim at moving targets I keep ours out of reach and monitor him while he uses it. 🙂 I’m sure if you have younger boys you know what I mean! I think this is definitely my favorite product from Imperial Toys – I can see this going HUGE this Christmas!!  These Zooma Splat X Smack and Sly shots are worth every penny. They are VERY sturdy & durable and a huge heap of fun! Since I’m also always thinking of special needs kids this would be an awesome tool to use to help strengthen muscles in the hand as well as working on motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Yes, I am using it for those reasons as well! 🙂 It certainly makes my son want to keep using it over and over and over again!
