It’s ALMOST fall weather – I can hardly wait! And when the weather gets cooler outside that also means we are outside a LOT! Everything from hiking to gardening and exploring our family loves the outdoors. When HearthSong offered to send me their new portable Flying Disc Golf……
……I was really excited because not only would our family use this at home and when we travel but I knew it would be perfect for our school to keep on hand for field day and recess. (We live next door to the school so a lot of our stuff is used for school.) Our school also has recess 3+ times per day so I was curious to see how this would work out for the students to set up and pull down during break time.
My kids could barely contain their excitement when it first arrived. As soon as they saw the box they’d already made plans to set it up so we walked over to the school to play a family round of Flying Disc Golf. I didn’t even get a chance to set up our play yard for the baby – my 8 year old had already grabbed all the pieces out and put them together! It really was that simple! It’s 2 pieces that each fold out and just attach together. You can gauge how tall it is next to my son and husband – it’s a pretty good size!
This Flying Disc Golf game is super fun! It comes with 2 discs, 9 flags, the stand itself and a storage bag. If you’ve ever played frisbee golf it’s pretty much the same thing, except instead of needing to move from hole to hole you have only one hole and you place out flags in various locations to throw your disc from. Thus making it much more portable! The point of the game is to get your disc into the “hole” in the least amount of throws.
The smalls are small and nothing fancy but there are 9 of them and they get the job done.
A note of caution – the discs are pretty hard so be careful you don’t accidentally hit someone when you throw them! They are good heavy duty discs and I expect that they will last a long time.
The “hole” itself is large and easy to use and throw your disc into. It definitely needs to be stored when not in use though so that it doesn’t get broken. I also wouldn’t leave it out in the elements for extended periods of time. It would be pretty easy to tip in hard winds and I wouldn’t want the canvas on the tray to rip. Considering it only takes a minute or less to put it away in storage this really shouldn’t be a problem. Even our students at school could easily pack it away when the school bell rings.
The set retails for about $99 at HearthSong but they are always running deals and specials so make sure you subscribe to their e-mail if you’re looking for their coupon specials! Especially with the holidays coming up! If you’re a school administrator or PE teacher this is a pretty handy set to have on hand for fun PE days and field days that really test kids coordination skills.
