Educational Insights' Alpha Catch
Do your kids love to play catch? Maybe they need a little encouragement with their alphabet letters or spelling? We had the opportunity to review Educational Insights’ Alpha Catch – a unique and fun hands on game which our kids just loved!

It comes with 4 catching mitts, 26 soft self-sticking balls which have lowercase and upper case alphabet letters on them, and a guide which has seven different games on it! I LOVE the brightly colored balls AND I love that they have both uppercase and lowercase letters on them. This really helps to reinforce visual learning and letter recognition.

Since my oldest son knows how to spell and read, we played a game where we would throw him 3 balls, and he needed to form a word using the letters on it! To warm us up we just threw one ball and had him call out the letters as they came to him. You can even spice it up a bit and have your kids tell you the phonetic sounds of the letters that you throw them!

My little guy doesn’t know any of the alphabet yet, but he sure loved joining in and catching the balls!! Even though he doesn’t understand the letters yet this is a great way to include him in the game, and eventually help him to recognize letters as well! Big brother had a great time helping out our youngest learn what letters he was catching.

This would certainly be a great use in a preschool or classroom setting as well! You would need to break the group up into smaller teams, but there are 4 mitts that they can share with or buy multiple sets so that everyone has a mitt! The first group to get a specific letter or form a word wins! You can see the the balls stick pretty well as my son has the whole set all stuck together! We had a few bounce off but not enough to matter.

The great thing about Alpha Catch is that you can use this really for any age level. My two year old loved playing catch with us, my four year old loved spelling the words and calling out the letter sounds, and older kids can compete with forming words, collecting specific letters, etc. Even just using it to play catch with as a family game is a good idea!
