Frozen Food isn’t Always Bad

I just got back in town from a conference, one kid goes to one school, my other son goes to a different one, we are out of milk and I needed food. Sound familiar? Yep – it’s the life of a busy mom! Whether or not you work out of the home, in the home, or just stay home with the kids we ALL can relate to the frantic to-do list that seems to never be done. I know growing up my mom never really cooked for us and I literally lived on frozen meals. But I hated the hard sections that got over-cooked, the cardboard taste, and as I got older the outrageously high amounts of sodium and fat in them! But as I’ve gotten older and am now in control of the grocery shopping I have realized that not all frozen meals are disgusting, they are not all unhealthy, and many of them even taste better than going out to eat! Not to mention cheaper! Â It’s amazing how my perspective has changed just by being able to do my own shopping and choose my own foods to buy.
Growing up to me frozen food meant:
- Were just full of junk
- Tasted like the box they came out of
- FULL of sodium, fat, and who knows what else
And trust me – there are still frozen foods out there that fit these descriptions! But not all of them. I have fallen in love with the Healthy Choice Steamers specifically but Healthy Choice and Marie Callendar’s frozen meals are what began to change my thoughts around about frozen foods – especially compared to what I was eating when I had no time and had to grab something on the go! Healthy Choice and Marie Callendar’s meals are made with fresh ingredients like veggies and meats. They are picked when they are freshest and most are frozen within 24 hours of being picked! There are a huge amount of varieties which makes it easy for my husband and I both to have the styles of meals that we want to eat available.  What I also love is that Healthy Choice recipes use things like apples to sweeten their recipes instead of sugar, or even wine instead of salt!
Healthy Choice and Marie Callendar’s both provide special portion-sized meals which is great for not over-eating! Both brands combined have over 80 meals that equal 400 calories or less per meal. My personal favorite recipe? Healthy Choices Beef Merlot which I stuck a few pictures of in this post! It makes me hungry just thinking of it now! 🙂
ConAgra Foods frozen meals give families access to real ingredients like crunchy, freshly cut vegetables, homemade pasta and ripe fruit year-round. Just like most people blanch veggies before freezing them – ConAgra Foods does too – to help preserve color, texture and keep them fresh!
Give it a try sometime! Marie Callender’s hearty pot pies are filled with tender meat, freshly cut vegetables and Marie’s authentic golden, flaky crust. And Healthy Choice recipes use chef-inspired ingredients like, apples instead of sugar for tart sweetness and a splash of red wine for a punch of flavor instead of added salt.
