Earth Day is coming up so save your toilet paper tubes and sit down with your kids to make some earth-friendly recycled snakes!
You’ll need one toilet paper tube per snake, some google eyes, scissors, and some paint!
To create your snake take your scissors and cut slowly on an angle into your toilet paper tube. Continue to cut slowly rotating your toilet paper tube around until it is cut from one side to the other forming one large spiral piece of cardboard.
You can cut them into tiny thin strips, big fat strips – there is no right or wrong! I suggest making several snakes so that you can create all different shapes and sizes!
Then carefully stretch out your toilet paper tube to make your snake longer. You can make it very long and skinny with less spirals or you can keep it tightly coiled! Use your imagination! Then grab your paints and cover up that toilet paper tube!
If you have older kids look up some snakes online and try to come up with different species of snakes to paint. You can even add some glitter if you want! Don’t forget to glue on the google eyes!
There are plenty of things you can do with this Earth Day craft! You can turn them into a gardening gift for grandma for Mother’s Day. You can turn it into a school lesson and learn about different species of snakes or how they are helpful in your garden. You could even head to the pet store to see real live snakes! Or make a diorama of a swamp with your new snakes in it!
