Decorating a Gingerbread House – A Holiday Tradition

It’s already almost a full week into December and I wanted to share with you yet another holiday tradition that is a fun family activity! Decorating gingerbread houses!! I had the fun opportunity this year to join together with BJ’s Wholesale Club and feature their Lynden Reede Gingerbread House Kit which we absolutely loved!
A HUGE HUGE plus for us is that my son who has food allergies was able to eat almost everything in this kit so it made it extra special for our family to ALL participate!!
The gingerbread kit came in this beautiful house. The rooftop opens up to reveal all of the goodies inside. Isn’t just the box beautiful? My kids immediately knew what it was and were SO excited! When I first opened the rooftop all I could think about was how GOOD it smelled!!! The gingerbread cookies smelled delicious and fresh!

The kit came with directions on how to build the gingerbread house AND Santa’s sleigh along with all of the gingerbread cutouts, icing, and candies. There was PLENTY of everything! There was even a cute gummy Santa!

One reason we decorate gingerbread houses as a holiday tradition other than the fact that it is just plain fun is that as you can see above it is a family project. Our entire family spends the afternoon together, as a team, doing something fun! (with no electronics involved!!) Then we all get to devour the yumminess too which is equally as exciting!

Ok – so the icing on my house got a little bit droopy because of all the candy! 🙂 I did the icing and my boys got to completely decorate the house however they wanted which I thought looked pretty considering that a 2 and 4 year old did it!! Look how cute that Santa in his sleigh is!! You can’t see but there are also reindeer in front of the sleigh. I LOVED the bright colors in the candy – what a nice selection!
We had a blast! A big thank you to BJ’s for providing our family with an entire evening of fun! The four of us couldn’t even eat the entire house either – it has lasted a few days of us pigging out on gingerbread cookies and candy! What I was totally surprised with was how delicious the gingerbread cookies were!! I have done gingerbread house kits before and the cookies tasted very stale. This gingerbread house from BJ’s was truly delicious! If I didn’t know better I would have thought that it was freshly made. It smelled and tasted SO good!
BJ’s also has Giant Gingerbread Man Kits! The kit of three giant gingerbread men which requires no baking and includes everything you need to decorate a classic holiday treat. BJ’s Wholesale Club is offering a Free 60-Day Trial Membership to make holiday shopping easy which can be activated until December 31.  The risk-free, trial membership includes full member benefits including savings and no surcharge.
