My kids LOVE to paint and make messes so I was so excited when Roylco sent me their Finger Paint Sensations Kit! It includes 10 different bags of materials that you mix into your paint (paint not included). This is especially fantastic for visually impaired and sensory challenged kids (like mine!). I’ve always encouraged my children to be creative and paint, but I never thought of making the paint textured- what a cool idea!
The materials in this Finger Paint Sensation Kit by Roylco come in separately numbered bags which makes it easy to tell the materials apart. I love the large numbers on the front – it helped me find which material I was looking for easier! Each bag has a different material to mix in your paint which will produce a different texture. Since my children are young we used washable paint. This kit includes textures for the following sensations:
All of the additives are washable! The kit also includes a teacher guide with fun ideas too!
I started by mixing our paint on a plate, but I think a bowl would have been easier! In a classroom setting it would be easy to mix it all at once and then just store the extra in an airtight container. Since there were just two kids painting I only used just enough paint for each child and then added one of the materials in the kit. My son has a sensory disorder and this was such an awesome idea for him! He LOVED it! I’m not sure whether he had more fun painting or squishing around the different textures on the plate! I loved seeing his eyes light up when he realized that this was no ordinary paint!
You can see below the materials on my son’s hands too! Using this textured sensational paint is a good idea also for helping children understand different adjectives. You can mix several different materials individually into bowls of paint, then have the children describe what the paint feels like. Then have them paint a picture to express that feeling! For example, if the paint felt gritty and hard they could try painting a piece of sandpaper, or even a cat’s tongue! If the paint felt bumpy they could use their paint to create a mountain!
I loved the idea of textured paint so much that I think I will always offer a textured paint during my children’s art creativity time! I like the variations that Roylco has chosen to include in this kit. It really does bring a wide variety of sensations and exploration for the children to enjoy. Even looking at the artwork from a distance you can see that the textured paint gives it a new dimension that really stands out!
