To assist schools and libraries that suffered damage during Hurricane Sandy, Scholastic pledged ONE MILLION BOOKS through Book Grants.  Starting this week, more than 100 schools from NY and NJ that applied for grants are picking up anywhere from 500 to 10,000 books each for their school and classroom libraries to replace lost books.  Scholastic is working with the nonprofit K.I.D.S., Inc. (Kids In Distressed Situations, Inc.) and three of its partner organizations to manage the distributions – so it’s a real for-profit/non-profit collaboration.   Within the first week of pick-ups at three warehouse locations, we will have distributed 391,300 books!

Want to learn more about applying for Scholastic Book Grants or see if your school is on the list? I know my kids just LOVE books so what an exciting time for these kids to get some brand new books after such a rough hurricane season!!
