My Awesome Craigslist Deal

Boy am I SUPER excited tonight! When we moved to Iowa we scrambled for a bit last fall trying to acquire the right storage we needed in our house for simple things like dishes and food storage in the kitchen. We purchased a cheap really nasty shelf system off of Craigslist for about $15. It was only about 2 feet high  but about 5 feet long and we scrubbed it hard, re-painted it and put it in the kitchen to hold dishes, coffee mugs, and set our appliances on top of it. It’s worked great, except that here in Iowa the dust is CRAZY out in the country from the fields being plowed and harvested with all of the high winds that we can get. Not to mention our pets in the house! I knew there had to be a better set up for my frequently dusty coffee mugs and I had my heart set on getting a large china hutch of some sort. I had spotted one last week at our thrift store but I didn’t want a ton of glass doors on it. I don’t want anyone to see my mess! 🙂 So I passed it up. Yesterday I started looking on Craigslist and spotted the absolute PERFECT china hutch for ONLY $75!! I frantically wrote the owner saying how much I LOVED it and would love to pick it up this weekend…..but I didn’t hear back until the next day. It seems he had a lot of interest and said to call at 1pm. I figured it would be long gone but I quickly called the second it hit 1pm and he said it was available!!  And EVEN better – he said if I came by to pick it up right away I could have it for FREE!!!!! I couldn’t believe it! I was more than willing to pay the $75 for it – it’s just gorgeous!!

Isn’t it amazing?! I couldn’t wait to get it home & set up!! It had been in their family passed around for over 30 years and the couple finally decided they just didn’t have room for it anymore.

I don’t even have the middle drawers filled yet either! What a blessing! What’s the best thing that you’ve found free or discounted on Craigslist or at your local thrift store? I think this has got to be my favorite item so far!
