Saving Money on Meat

One of the best ways I have found to save money on meat is to buy in bulk! We just had a grand opening for our local Gordon Food Service and they had Boston Butt Roast for around $1.60 a pound! Which is the best I have ever seen it around here, but of course, it was only sold in twenty pound packages! SO what did I do? I bought twenty pounds of Boston Roast!! When we got home we sliced it up into different smaller roasts and wrapped them to freeze. We split it up into 8 different meals which was a STEAL! In fact I think I’m going to go back this weekend and grab another one since we have room in the freezer! Sometimes your clubs like Sam’s, BJ’s, and Costco have good prices on meat in bulk.
Check the sales! You can find some really great steals on meat sometimes – and stock up big when you do! About a year ago I found a sale for $.99/lb. for ground beef – little did I know that the price would get ridiculous by this year!! But I bought about 30 pounds and it sure lasted a LONG time!! Our local Winn Dixie also has Buy One Get one Free on their meats every week and sometimes it makes the price worth buying!
Check for clearance! Some stores many times will have “last minute” meat sales to get rid of it before the expiration date. Another great time to stock up and buy!!
