While I was at BlogHer this past summer I met with VSP Vision Care and I love the campaign that they are running right now to help kids! Did you know that 1 in 4 students across the country has a visual impairment problem, and many of those are undiagnosed?? Eye health is extremely important for your child’s ability to learn, play and develop. In 5th grade I was one of those kids who was visually impaired and didn’t know it. I was SO self-conscious, and even sitting in the front row of the class I couldn’t see the chalkboard – it was embarrasing! Not to mention it really affected my schooling!  In fact my vision was so bad that I had to get within 4 inches of the chalkboard to be able to read my assignment! A simple vision screening is what caught my inability to see properly – I didn’t even realize is as I just thought everyone was like that!
VSP Vision Care has launched the VSP Eye Pledge campaign which is a FREE and an EASY way to donate an eye exam AND glasses to a Boys and Girls Club member in need!!! VSP has pledged to donate up to 50,000 eye exams – that is worth more than $19 million dollars!!
HOW TO PLEDGE:
2. Click on “Submit My Pledge and Help a Child on My Behalf”.
3. Direct the donation to your local club OR a club in the US that needs it most.
4. Click submit!
That’s it!! It’s VERY simple and only takes a moment!
VSP has very generously offered for one of my readers to win a $200 Visa Gift Card!! In doing so we want to try and help raise more pledges for this great campaign!
In order to enter you MUST do ALL of the following:

Take the VSP Vision Care Pledge and leave me a comment with the following 3 items:
1. WHY you took the pledge.
2. How you’ve shared the pledge with others.
3. Why YOU thought it was important to share!

MANY thanks for helping me to support this great cause!!

Disclosure: I was not compensated for this post in any way. All opinions are my own. VSP will be providing the gift card to the winner and is responsible for shipping. Giveaway is open to US only and will end November 6, 2011 at 10 PM est. Winner will be chosen by random.org and will have 48 hours to claim prize.

  19. sweetheart says:

I took the pledge because it's an awesome cause. As a child I was never diagnosed with an eye problem and went thru school not being able to see the board so this was hard for me. Every child deserves the best education, and having the best eyesight definitely makes learning better.

Shared the pledge on twitter, and liked on facebook…it's important to share because all it takes is a click to help children in need, simple as that!!

  20. Sippy Cup Mom says:

I took the pledge because I wear glasses myself and I know how important it is for learning. I started wearing my glasses young, but I also went awhile before admitting I needed them. We also need to make people aware how COOL it is to wear glasses! ;-)

I shared on Facebook and Twitter…what a great cause!

  21. luvzenkms2(Leea) says:

I took the pledge, as we have had students who due to low income could not afford their glasses, and the Boys and Girls Clubs have helped out! I shared on facebook and email to my coworkers (we just got VSP at our school) Thanks for the chance, I go in a week to get my eyes checked after 12 years!

  22. I took the pledge and I'm emailing my friends to pledge. I took the pledge because it is such an easy way to help someone in need and I think it is important to share because I have a daughter who has worn glasses since she was 18 months old and I want every child who needs glasses to be able to have them. cwitherstine at zoominternet dot net

  23. Small Footprints says:

I took the pledge because I think it's important that all children have good vision … it impacts everything in their life. So … if we can help by simply agreeing to take care of our own eyes … well that's something we should be doing anyway! I'm IN! I shared the pledge on my facebook page (I'm Sml Footprints). I think it's important to share the pledge for two reasons … it'll serve to remind people to have their eyes checked and it'll help children. Totally Win-Win activity!

  24. Tamika Sims says:

I took the pledge and I think that it is amazing that this is happening. All children and all people deserve good eye sight. I started wearing glasses when I was in 7th grade. I am thankful that my folks were able to see that I needed glasses and could get them for me right away. A child in school who has to do lots of reading–from books and a black board, studying, and writing for school certainly doesn't need anything getting in their way of being a strong student. This is an investment in these children's future and it's wonderful!

  25. Tamika Sims says:

Forgot to say tweeted about this to spread the word!

  26. I making this pledge as I am a teacher and see how poor vision can directly affect students' academic success, especially in the early years. I have needed glasses since I was in early elementary school, but due to lack of insurance, I did not receive glasses until I was in 10th grade. I know first hand how difficult it is to learn when you cannot see well and am passionate about vision care for all students. I am thankful that I have vision insurance and my two young sons already have glasses to correct their vision. I am sharing this pledge in hopes that all children will have access to vision care and corrective lenses if needed. I shared on Facebook and Twitter and will email the staff members at my school as well.

  27. I took the pledge to help spread the word and encourage VSP in their work here.
I've shared with pledge with my family because doing well in school is nearly impossible without good vision.

  28. I took the pledge because it's a wonderful cause. It's always makes me smile whenever I can help someone else. I shared the pledge's website with my friends and family so they can help spread the news and awareness too. It's important we share so more kids in need can be benefit.

I took the pledge because I have always had perfect vision. However the last few months I am noticing a change to my vision, blurry, harder to see small words in a book etc… the change is due to age I am sure, but it makes me realize how much I always took my vision for granted. I know it's important for kids to have good vision or the corrective lenses they need to achieve that. I shared with some family members and posted on my wall. I did it because I want to get the word out to everyone and help kids in need at the same time.

I shared with my almost 500 Twitter followers (http://twitter.com/#!/kcoud33/status/126740864935526401) because if even one person takes the pledge, that is another child who will receive essential eye care. 67. I took the pledge because I know first hand that eye exams can tell you about more than just your vision. In my daughter's case, it showed her brain tumor was back.

This is a critical area that needs check ups that can often be pushed to the side, especially if finances are tight.

I shared this with my family and friends…because it's important that we rally around to do the most good in numbers.
