Nikon Coolpix S01 Digital Camera Review from Best Buy

You are about to see the smallest camera we’ve ever owned! Be forewarned – it’s perfectly tiny.

Isn’t that crazy?! I thought there was no way such a small camera could take decent pictures, but my husband was going to prove me wrong! I didn’t even get to try out our new Nikon Coolpix S01 digital camera for a while since my husband immediately laid claim to it and snatched it away to play! He LOVED that this camera was so small and slim and he could slip it into his shirt or pants pocket and take pictures at his school anytime during the day. Me? I liked that it was shiny!

The Nikon Coolpix S01 boasts a 10.1 MP and 20x total zoom. Plus it has a touch screen monitor which was a big plus for us! It has a 7.3 GB internal memory and comes with some fun features like the fisheye effect, miniature effect, and others including below the sepia effect.

You might notice above how the sepia colored picture is a little blurry but the one above it is not – the sepia one does not have the Vibration Reduction on which helps to prevent blurry pictures. My husband has a terribly shaky hand and having a good Vibration Reduction on a camera is a must! You can see how his picture of the bridge in color isn’t blurry at all – it is quite clear! To test how well the Vibration Reduction worked with my husband’s shaky hands while we were at the zoo he ran over to the giraffes and zoomed in on a giraffe standing about 30 feet out….

Not bad! For some odd reason I love that this giraffe has wrinkles!! 🙂

As you can see the camera has great quality to it’s images and can really pick up on the details. Point and click cameras have evolved so much in the last ten years. I used to be terrified to even use one thinking that I would hate every photo that came out of it but Nikon has proved to me that these cameras have come such a long way! Plus I LOVE LOVE LOVE that you can get this camera in bright red, hot pink, white or shiny silver!

Here I took a picture of the touchscreen on my Nikon Coolpix S800c in a VERY dimly lit room to see how the quality of light would come out and I was really happy with it! (You can read my review of the Nikon Coolpix S800c here.) Not only can you clearly see the images but you can also see the shadow from my hand in the next picture clearly as well!

Overall I was really please with the camera. It’s a good price, it’s a great size for on-the-go, and you can get some pretty good quality images out of it! As you know I’m a total dSLR geek but even I was happy with this digital camera! My husband uses it on a regular basis now and he sure enjoys having it!

And lastly – meet Miss Ellie Mae! She is another love in our life and let me tell you how extremely difficult it is to take pictures of her! Even using more expensive cameras most of the time I just get a blur because she moves SO much and SO quick! I was thrilled to see that I got some good photos of our piggles with this Nikon Coolpix S01! It’s not blurry at all! And it was an incredibly sunny day as you can see from the light on the corn and the camera didn’t have a problem adjusting on her at all on piggy!
