Last night we hosted a LeapFrog “Learn, Create, and Share” party! I was really excited because we not only had kids show up but we also invited teachers too! LeapFrog sent us a LeapFrog LeapPad with an App Center card and the LeapSchool Reading Game as well as the Tag reading system, Tag World Map, and Tag Learn to Read Book Set 1 to help showcase during the party. The theme of our party? Why frogs of course!!

We made a LeapPad parfait sprinkled with green sprinkles on top!

And what’s a LeapFrog party without frog cupcakes and “frog legs”?? (Ok, they were really chicken strips!!)

We also had Ribbit Rollups and my favorite – Swamp Water!! Mmmm!

Here is my son with one of the teachers who attended eating the “frog legs”.

And for most of the party my youngest sported green froggy cupcakes all over his face!

We have actually owned the Tag reading system for quite a while now (maybe 2 years?). Our family is HUGE LeapFrog fans. I absolutely love that their products are not only fun and captivating but they are highly educational. My oldest son taught himself how to read and count by using his Tag reading system. Above you see him using the Tag World Map – which is a two sided map. The Tag World Map teachers geography, world languages, map skills and more! There are more than 10 interactive games on this map. We also have the Tag USA Map which we equally love. My son loves playing with these now but I am really excited to have these to go along with his school curriculum when he starts school next year.

We also received the Tag Learn to Read Book 1 Set which includes 6 books with the LeapFrog characters. These books all focus on the short vowels and consonants. The educators who attended the party were especially interested in these, and to be honest although my kids love LeapFrog’s licensced Tag books, it is there Learn to Read Books that have helped my son to strengthen his reading skills. These are highly educational and I cannot recommend strongly enough that your child have a Tag reading system. This is the absolute BEST investment we have ever made for our children!!!

Each of the Tag books are interactive with the electronic Tag pen. The children can have the story read to them, or they can touch each word on the page to hear it read aloud separately. They can also touch images on the page to hear what they are. Some pages have games in which the children can interact on different levels. Once they have completed all three levels they will receive a virtual reward. The parent can then plug the electronic Tag pen into their computer and the child can print their rewards or unlock online games in the LeapFrog world!

When you plug the Tag pen into your computer you will be directed to LeapFrog’s Learning Path. This is an ingenious idea that I as a parent appreciate. Every time you plug your pen in it will download information about what your child has been doing with the pen. It tells me how many minutes they have spent on each different book, how many questions they have answered correctly AND what the questions were with the answers that they completed. You can also see what learning level your child is on and what areas they have completed in their books.
There are NO cartridges to keep track of with the Tag pen, simply “change” books on the pen by plugging it into your computer. It’s a very simple process. The Tag pen is not only fun because it is electronic and interactive for the children, but it really gives the child a sense of independent reading.

The next item we showcased with the LeapFrog LeapPad Explorer Learning Tablet – one of the hottest items out this year for kids! I was VERY VERY excited to try out this product!! Partially to get my cell phone back from my kids, and partly because we are HUGE fans of LeapFrog products and I knew this product would be just as educational as their other products that we have. As you can see above the LeapPad was a huge hit with the kids, who were even teaching the adults how to use it by the end of the party!! Each guest (up to a set amount) can sign in under separate accounts on the LeapPad. As with the Tag reader system, you can also check your child’s learning path on your computer after plugging your LeapPad in.
The LeapPad has a 2 GB storage and comes with a built-in camera and video recorder (which is a top notch quality- I was impressed!), a Pet writing app (my kids LOVE this), a story studio app, an art studio app, a USB Cable, the LeapFrog Ceonnct CD and Quickstart Guide, and an extra stylus with tether. (The stylus is magnetic!!) Our LeapPad also had a Cars 2 Ultra eBook on it as well as Roly Poly Picnic and the Letter Factory Video. I thought the Roly Poly Picnic was awesome – it was a maze where you actually had to tilt the LeapPad back and forth to move the roly poly through the maze!! And my kids LOVED the Cars 2 Ultra eBooks. These are a bit different than a regular ebook as they are interactive and a cinematic experience. We found that not only were they interactive books but they also had little games throughout it to complete as well!

This picture is one of the games the boys specifically loved. The LeapPad is a touch screen tablet so for this game you simply touch the screen to move the train tracks around changing them in different directions. Once you have connected all of the tracks together you could let the train ride into the station.
My son has been caring for his pet everyday in the pet app and I couldn’t believe it when I found him blowing into the learning tablet. I thought he was trying to ruin it until he showed my that you actually blow into the LeapPad to blow dry your animal! HAH!

The LeapPad cartridge games and apps are sold separately. And the LeapFrog Explorer game cartridges do work with the LeapPad. LeapFrog offers over 100 cartridge games, digital books, videos, apps, and flash cards which means your kids will not be getting bored anytime soon!! Subject areas span from reading, math, science, geography, art, music, language, culture, health, just plain fun, and more! Skill levels adjust automatically too.

The built in camera is nothing short of amazing. I was highly impressed with the quality of both the camera and the video camera. The kids can save their pictures, smudge them, swirl them, stamp them, and lots more! AND, are you ready for this?? You can take more than 30,000 photos or 120 minutes of video! WHOA! That is a serious amount of pictures!!! And when you plug your LeapPad into your computer you can share these photos and videos with friends!

As you can see our family owns a huge amount of LeapFrog products. We already owned all of the Tag products we were sent so they will be donated to my husband’s elementary classroom. I HIGHLY recommend the Tag reading system for any preschool or elementary aged child. We have had gotten an incredible amount of use out of ours and all of our books have stayed in phenomenal shape. I can’t tell you how much we absolutely LOVE the Tag reading system.
I know a lot of you were really curious about the LeapFrog LeapPad and wondering if the price was worth it. And I say YES – it is definitely worth the price. (even if it’s just for my sanity in the car!! hah! Just kidding!) It does occupy my kids on a long car ride, and if I’m really desperate I’ll allow them to use it while I’m grocery shopping. For some reason about 2 weeks after we had ours we did have a problem with the touch screen but I called LeapFrog customer service and we had a brand new LeapPad within 2 days. Be prepared to purchase a case and/or skin for your LeapPad and apps and game cartridges. But this product is SO versatile and worth the investment. Both my 2 year old and my 4 year old use it daily (although please note that the product is for children ages 4+). I love that the product not only uses the Learning Path so I can monitor it’s usage and the level that my children are at, but I love that it automatically adjusts to my child’s level as he progresses. It is entertaining and fun for your children, but it also encourages them to read, be creative, strategize, and more!
Disclosure: I received a LeapFrog Tag learning system, map, and books as well as a LeapFrog LeapPad tablet, app card, and game in order to host a party and form my own opinions for this review from LeapFrog and BSM Media. I also received activity sheets, coupons and invitations to provide to my guests. All opinions are 100% my own.

I love all the Leapfrog stuff my kids have already, but we don't have ANY of the products you had at your party. Looks like Santa might have to rectify that! 😉

I'm really interested in the Tag reader. I think my son would get a lot of out of that. I love that you don't have to keep up with a bunch of cartridges. Keeping up with things is not my a real strength for me, LOL.
