This year we will be growing a very large veggie garden so that I can can my own food for our family in an effort to not only eat healthier but help to cut down on grocery costs as well. But let me tell you – buying a large amount of mason jars to can with is NOT cheap! They cost roughly $1 each in stores (I find mine at Walmart). I was thrilled to find that my local thrift store has a whole shelf for mason jars!
Mason jars run about $.50 each at my store (HALF the price of buying them at Walmart!) but once in a while I can find an entire box of them for $2-$3!! I’ll have to purchase the lids separately but it still saves a considerable amount of money once you add it all up! Don’t have room to garden? Use a wooden pallet to plant your veggies!
