So I debated on whether or not to even write a recap post but I know many of you were interested in the Progressive Snapshot program. I’m ALL for saving money, especially on something as pricey as car insurance. So I signed up to try the Progressive Snapshot program for 30 days – they send you this device to plug into your car which records things like braking, etc. and you *could* save up to 30% on your car insurance through them. We pay about $600 for the entire year so to be honest I was completely skeptical that Progressive would be cheaper than that because let’s face it – that’s a great price for car insurance! BUT I am all about exploring all of your options and saving as much as you can so I figured I would give it a shot. It wasn’t much of a time commitment. Neither of us have had speeding tickets or caused accidents so I figured the odds were ever in our favor!
The device that was sent was extremely easy to set up – the entire program was easy to set up. It would beep when you turned the car on, and it would beep every time you braked too hard. AND by the end of our 30 days we began to hate our Snapshot device. My kids would laugh and laugh and say “You got Flo Beeped” – which would make us hate it even more! My husband and I BOTH felt this way! We had just moved to Iowa in the middle of nowhere so I thought surely we would save money on our insurance. We have 1 car, we don’t even go out every day and there is NO traffic, no lights, nothing. However, we have a zillion curves and every time we would slow down for a sharp curve Flo would beep at us. I wonder how in the world I would have survived that device in a big city like Chicago?! We were MORE worried about Flo beeping at us than actually driving safe – it was crazy. So our 30 days just ended and I received this notice:
Really? Nada. SO if you live in the middle of nowhere with LOTS of curves or you live in a heavy traffic area, Snapshot probably will not be for you. But go ahead & try it. Some have liked it and saved. Trying to save money is always worth a shot. However for us it was definitely not the right fit.

I think we all have heard on Progressive and love their commercials. I know I have a few favorite ones (like the squirrel one). I was honestly curious about the Snapshot device and if it really worked. I live in St. Louis. Not really sure if it would be good for me. My hubby has already made it clear that we would never try it, although we do love all the commercials. Interesting to hear you didn’t save anything?!? BTW what part of Iowa did you move to? I was born in Marshalltown.

I’m not too far from Pella! So far we are LOVING it out here in Iowa! I know that I saw another blogger save about 9 & 19% on their 2 cars so I’m guessing it was just because I’m out in the middle nowhere with a zillion curves! :/
