And YOU can do it too! (They are also giving away $1000 and other prizes too!) Between now and February 13, 2012 their goal is to donate $10,000 to RIF. Chances are if your child is in school they have benefited from RIF. Learn more about RIF at www.rif.org)

It’s VERY simple – just head to Gerber Life’s Facebook Page upload your photo and RIF gets $1 from Gerber Life College Plan! What an easy way to help children in America get books!

More about Gerber Life College Plan:

The Gerber Life College Plan, a unique and brand new program launched in 2009, was designed to help parents save for tomorrow – safely and easily. The Gerber Life College plan is an adult endowment life insurance product that pays a guaranteed amount of money to the insured at the end of the selected term (between 10 -20 years). So young families saving for their young child’s college education can receive the benefit amount when they need to pay for college expenses. The benefit amount can be from $10,0000 – $150,000 depending upon the plan selected. (The monthly premium is dependent upon the age & sex of the parent, the benefit amount, as well as the term selected. The term length has the greatest impact on price, the shorter the term, the higher the cost.)

This program is unique because it provides life insurance protection. In the event of the death of the insured (usually a parent) the benefit amount will be paid to the designated beneficiary. It is BOTH a savings and a life insurance policy.  It is a safe savings alternative, with no stock market or investment risk. It is not a 529 plan and therefore not tax deductible but there is no investment risk and you will know exactly how much your plan will mature for. Plus the really cool thing is that the money can be used for anything without penalty unlike other college programs I’ve seen.
The Gerber Life College Plan includes the following features:
Coverage options available: $10,000, $25,000, $50,000, $100,000, $150,000
Maturity terms of 10, 15, 18 years (or other – as requested by customer)
Guaranteed lump sum paid at maturity
Affordable premiums that work with your budget
Life insurance benefit – if the insured dies before the endowment matures, GLIC
will fund the remaining premiums so that the endowment still pays the full benefit
Safe financial alternative in uncertain times – no risk
The policy builds cash value over time, which can be borrowed against
Premiums are fixed and level – will not increase
You can use the money for any purpose – not just college
Payments can be made monthly, semi-annually, annually. Discounted rate if pay
by automatic deduction.

Dear Crystal,

On behalf of Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), thank you for supporting Project Open Book. All the money raised through our partnership with Gerber Life helps us provide new books to the kids who need them most. In low-income neighborhoods in the U.S., there’s only one book for every 300 children. For many RIF kids, their RIF book is their only book.

Learn more about RIF and our efforts through our newsletter, Facebook and Twitter.
